The client was a division of a Fortune 500 company.  The core products sold by the division were under increasing pressure from global competitors and private label offerings.  In an effort to drive new growth the division invested in new product development.  One outcome of this investment was the development of technology which could be used in a completely new category of products for the division.  The new products would allow the division to move away from their core product and enter into a new and unfamiliar market.  Since the division saw the potential for market acceptance of their technology and products they decided to move forward with development.
